Triceratops

Gameplay guide

This profile gathers useful information for choosing this dinosaur, understanding its role, and preparing a Gateway session.

Play style

Frontal wall

Triceratops plays like a frontal wall. Early life is a risky investment: it is visible, slow to grow, and must avoid donating a free death before it has mass. As a subadult, it starts making the horns respected, but patient groups can still break it down. As an adult, it becomes a zone monster: choose open terrain, keep threats in front, cover the rear with the herd, and punish entries with headbutt, flip, thrash, or directional attacks. A bad Trike chases. A good Trike makes others come die in its angle.

Play style

Active abilities

Left click

Horn attack

A simple left click performs the quick horn attack. This is the baseline tool for holding the frontal arc: punish a short entry, push back an overconfident carnivore, or tag without committing to a longer animation.

Hold left click

Flip / knockdown

Holding left click prepares the flip/knockdown. Do not throw it the moment an enemy appears: wait for a committed target, close enough and in the right lane. When it works, Trike can flip the tempo of the fight and create a window for thrash or herd repositioning.

Double left click

Thrash

Double-clicking left click triggers thrash. It is the violent follow-up for a target that is already knocked down or controlled. It deals more damage but locks movement during the attack, so confirm the target state before committing.

Alt + left click

Directional horns

Alt + left click lets you aim a horn attack with the camera. This is the tool that stops predators from simply leaving the main lane: turn the response toward their entry line, hit, then immediately recover frontal facing.

Hold right click

Block / brace

Holding right click lowers the head and works as a frontal guard. Trike wants to absorb or reduce pressure on its head, not expose its rear. In practice, block to make the opponent hesitate, keep the horns pointed at them, then release when it is time to take initiative back.

Ctrl, then space + direction

Ceratopsian spar

Ctrl enters or exits spar against compatible ceratopsians. In this mode, horns can lock, pushes become central, and size matters enormously. Space plus a movement direction is used to break out or change angle during spar.

Attacks

  • Frontal horn attack on left click
  • Flip or knockdown with held left click
  • Double-left-click thrash on controlled targets
  • Directional horns with Alt + left click
  • Running push when an attack is used while sprinting

Strengths

  • 9500 kg gives it one of the heaviest land presences in the current roster
  • Extremely deterrent frontal arc through horns and guarding
  • Can turn knockdown into a real punish sequence with thrash
  • Excellent herd anchor, especially for closing lanes toward weaker animals
  • Very dangerous in ceratopsian duels because of mass and spar

Weaknesses

  • Very long growth makes every route mistake expensive
  • The rear remains its biggest weak point, especially alone
  • Very slow; it struggles to choose fights on bad terrain
  • Heavy attacks and thrash lock or slow it long enough to be punished
  • Dense forest, banks, and obstacles break pivots and open flanks

Official notes

Selection-screen data: Diet DT_Herbivore, Preferred Food VariegatedOrange, Fiddlehead, Papaya. Basic Max Weight 9500.0, Basic Max Speed 650.0, Basic Max Bite Force 900.0, Basic Max Group Size 4. Official patch 0.20.109 adds Triceratops to the EVRIMA public branch. Official patch 0.20.109 enables ceratopsian flip attack in spar mode with held left click, and allows thrash during spar and all locomotion states with double left click. Official notes explain that Triceratops shares a sparring mechanic with Diabloceratops, but its mass beyond subadult makes those interactions much heavier. Official patch 0.20.117 fixes Triceratops attack power so it scales properly with size.

Community notes

Evrima Quick Guide matches the in-game sheet: 9.5 tons, 23.4 km/h, 900 force, and a group limit of 4. It also details LMB, hold LMB, double LMB, Alt + LMB, held RMB, and spar. The Isle Field Guide describes it as an apex defender: extremely strong when it holds the front, much more vulnerable when its rear is opened or it is dragged into tight terrain. The wiki gives about 9 m in length and confirms Triceratops' historic profile: huge, slow, very dangerous from the front, and much weaker if the rear is exploited. Internal app conversion: 650 x 0.036 = 23.4 km/h. This matches Evrima Quick Guide's 23.4 km/h adult value outside prime state.
