Tenontosaurus

Gameplay guide

This profile gathers useful information for choosing this dinosaur, understanding its role, and preparing a Gateway session.

Play style

Versatile defender

Tenontosaurus plays as a versatile defender, halfway between smart escape and violent counterplay. It should not accept every duel: choose terrain that leaves room to turn, keep small carnivores either in front or behind depending on the ready attack, and punish greedy entries with rear kick or tail slam. Its natural rhythm is active: step in to threaten, step back to bait, claw to add bleed, then use heavy control when the enemy finally makes the mistake.

Play style

Active abilities

Left click

Bite

Left click performs the simple bite. It is cheap, can be used while chasing, and helps tag a small target in front of you, but it is modest compared with the rest of the kit. Bite is the clean option when you do not want to spend stamina or slow down.

Alt + left click

Claw attack

Claw attack is triggered with Alt + left click. Official notes add bleed to Tenontosaurus claw/kick attacks, so this is often better than bite when a small or medium predator stays in the front angle. It chains more easily than heavy hits, but Tenonto's real defense is still keeping enemies where kick and tail slam become possible.

Right click

Rear kick

Right click triggers a powerful rear kick. It directly punishes predators sticking to the rear or trying to exploit the pivot. Official notes confirm control on this move, so save it for the moment the enemy has truly committed instead of throwing it into empty space.

Alt + right click

Tail slam

Alt + right click triggers tail slam, the heavy control tool. It is slower and more expensive than bite or claw, but it can break enemy tempo, push or stun depending on the target, and open a window to recover position. This is a punish button, not a panic button.

Camera + movement

Angle correction

Tenonto lives on angle correction. It should walk, turn, watch the threat, and swap attacks based on enemy position. A good player does not spam: bait an entry, correct the camera, strike with the right side, then recover enough space to repeat.

Attacks

  • Simple left-click bite
  • Alt + left-click claw attack with bleed
  • Right-click rear kick to punish predators stuck behind you
  • Alt + right-click tail slam, heavy and highly punishing
  • Control tools on rear kick and tail slam

Strengths

  • Very complete kit: bite, claw, kick, tail slam, and angle corrections
  • Excellent rear control through rear kick and tail slam
  • Good mobility for a 1600 kg herbivore
  • Has attacks that can break the opponent's rhythm
  • Current selection screen shows a group limit of 8, very comfortable for herd play

Weaknesses

  • Struggles when several predators split the attack angles
  • A missed tail slam is expensive and gives attackers a clear window
  • Its best tools require clean stamina management
  • Should not pretend to be an apex against the largest adults
  • Riverbanks remain dangerous because it can be forced to turn too close to water

Official notes

Selection-screen data: Diet DT_Herbivore, Preferred Food MountainAsh, WildPotatoRoot, RadishRoot. Basic Max Weight 1600.0, Basic Max Speed 1130.806396, Basic Max Bite Force 35.0, Basic Max Group Size 8. Tenontosaurus is one of EVRIMA's long-running herbivores, with its attacks adjusted multiple times in official notes. Official EVRIMA patch 0.6.15.18 increases Tenontosaurus scent range, adds bleed to claw/kick attacks, adjusts claw attack speed, adjusts Tail Slam and Rear Kick damage, and adds control to Rear Kick and Tail Slam. Official patch 0.5.19.28 adds effects and sounds to several Tenontosaurus animations. Official patch 0.18.111 updates leg fracture animations for Tenontosaurus, showing continued support for its injury states in EVRIMA.

Community notes

Evrima Quick Guide matches the selection screen: 1600 kg, about 40.7 km/h with the 0.036 conversion, 35 bite force, and a group limit of 8. Community guides present Tenontosaurus as a versatile medium herbivore: mobile enough to reposition, armed enough to punish, but not massive enough to play like an apex. The EVRIMA wiki describes a concrete kit: left click to bite, Alt + left click to claw, right click for rear kick, and Alt + right click for tail slam.
