Pteranodon

Gameplay guide

This profile gathers useful information for choosing this dinosaur, understanding its role, and preparing a Gateway session.

Play style

Opportunistic aerial scout

Pteranodon plays as an aerial scout and opportunistic fisher. It sees almost everything, chooses routes, and avoids most fights, but pays for every stamina or landing mistake. A good run is a clean loop: take off with space, climb, use G to circle an area for free, skim fish, latch or land high, then leave before getting pinned.

Active abilities

Left click

Peck

Left click performs a peck. Damage is very low, but it can finish tiny prey, harass an isolated juvenile, or buy a few seconds if Ptera is surprised on the ground. Against a healthy adult, taking off is usually better than trading.

Hold right click near a surface

Surface latch

Holding right click while flying slowly into a vertical surface lets Ptera latch onto it. This is useful for landing on a cliff, trunk, or elevated point without sitting on the ground. Approach slowly and cleanly: too much speed mostly turns it into a crash risk.

Space, then space x2

Clean takeoff

Takeoff uses three spacebar presses: one first hop, then two presses to really launch into flight, like a 'one, then one-two' rhythm. Before landing, already know how to leave: direction, slope, space ahead, and available stamina. Ptera survives mostly by avoiding impossible landings.

Controlled flight / glide

Flight and glide

Once airborne, keeping a clean line and gliding costs far less than constant wing beats. Ptera should gain enough altitude, ease off when it can glide, then keep stamina for takeoff recovery or an emergency escape.

G while flying

Free circling flight

Pressing G while flying enables automated circling. This matters a lot for stamina economy: Ptera can orbit an area, watch a fight, monitor a water source, or wait for an opening without constantly correcting its flight path.

Hold right click, then release on prompt

Water skimming

Holding right click while flying close to a water source enables skimming. Fly above fish ripples, then release right click when prompted to catch a schooling fish. It is effective but dangerous: enter with enough speed, read the surface, and leave immediately, because Deinosuchus and poor lines punish very quickly.

Controlled landing

Safe perch

Landing high or away from traffic lines lets it observe without constantly paying stamina. A good Ptera treats perches as save points: clear view, possible takeoff, and distance from ground predators.

Pteranodon

Attacks

  • Very light peck
  • Water-skimming fishing
  • Opportunistic small prey
  • Light harassment on weak or distracted targets

Strengths

  • Flight gives it the best travel freedom in the current roster
  • Excellent scout for finding bodies, groups, migrations, and danger
  • Can avoid many land threats by choosing aerial routes
  • Can feed efficiently through water-skimming fishing
  • Can observe for a long time with automated circling without burning stamina

Weaknesses

  • Extremely fragile if caught on the ground or near the water
  • Heavily depends on stamina to take off, flee, and stay safe
  • Very low direct damage against most adults
  • A poor landing can doom it even without a fight
  • Fishing exposes it to Deinosuchus and too-low flight lines

Official notes

Selection-screen data: Preferred Food SchoolingFish, Crab, Clam, Chicken, Hypsilophodon, Bullfrog, Rabbit, Troodon, Seaturtle, Psittacosaurus, Beipiaosaurus, Pterodactylus. Basic Max Weight 90.0, Basic Max Speed 1050.0, Basic Max Bite Force 20.0, Basic Max Group Size 6. Official patch 0.7.85.04 adds Pteranodon as an EVRIMA playable class alongside Deinosuchus. Official notes describe skimming as Pteranodon's fishing method: hold right click while flying close to a water source, pass above fish ripples, then release right click when prompted to catch a schooling fish. Official notes around its arrival detail flight controls: takeoff, climb, dive, landing, surface swimming, resting, and stamina use during aerial movement. Official patch 0.20.109 adds automated Pteranodon circling, with G as the default key while flying.

Community notes

Evrima Quick Guide matches the selection screen: 90 kg, about 37.8 km/h from the raw speed value, 20 bite force, and a pack limit of 6. Raw speed 1050 converts to 37.8 km/h with the 0.036 multiplier. The EVRIMA wiki describes Pteranodon as a fragile flying carnivore focused on scouting, fishing, and opportunism against small targets rather than direct combat.
