Tyrannosaurus

Gameplay guide

This profile gathers useful information for choosing this dinosaur, understanding its role, and preparing a Gateway session.

Play style

Ambush apex

A Tyrannosaurus life changes completely with age. Young Rex is easy prey: hide, avoid unnecessary calls, feed small, stay near cover, and grow without attracting adults. As a subadult, Ambush lets it start threatening targets, but it should still refuse long duels and pick short ambushes. Adult Rex becomes the monster the whole island hears and respects: it locks down an area, moves deliberately, saves stamina, then turns one enemy mistake into Crush, Throw, or a decisive bite.

Play style

Active abilities

Left click

Primary bite

Simple left click is the main bite. With 700 bite force, Rex does not need many clean hits: the real challenge is getting into range without wasting stamina or getting circled.

Right click

Muzzle swing

Right click performs a muzzle swing, a faster head attack than Crush. It keeps targets away, corrects short angles, or punishes an opponent trying to pass too close to the jaws.

Hold right click

Heavy muzzle swing

Holding right click triggers a heavier muzzle swing. It costs more commitment, but punishes close targets, controls the space in front of Rex, and discourages opponents from rotating freely around its head.

Hold left click

Crush / grab

Holding left click triggers Crush. This is Rex's control tool: grab a valid target, break its escape plan, then throw or finish it. Pick the timing carefully, because a missed Crush leaves a very heavy apex poorly positioned.

Spacebar

Ambush

Spacebar activates Ambush when Rex is ready to commit. It is a gap-closing tool: surprise a target, shift from heavy walking threat to real contact pressure, then convert the arrival with a bite or crush.

Right click after Crush

Throw

After a successful Crush, Rex holds the target in its jaws. Aim the camera toward the direction you want to send it, then use right click to throw. Throw sends prey away from an escape route, into an obstacle, or into your partner's angle. Official notes state that this throw always kills valid targets.

Tyrannosaurus

Attacks

  • Extremely heavy primary bite
  • Fast or charged muzzle swing
  • Crush / grab on valid targets
  • Throw after grab
  • Directional attacks to cover close angles

Strengths

  • Huge mass and 700 bite force, among the scariest in the roster
  • Crush and throw let it control a target at contact range
  • Ambush gives it a real window to close distance
  • Its presence alone changes how groups behave around it
  • Pack limit of 2, very dangerous when two Rexes cover different angles

Weaknesses

  • Very long growth and extremely costly death
  • Heavily depends on stamina to engage and avoid being kited
  • Large body and slow turns, vulnerable to opponents that rotate well
  • A missed Crush can leave Rex without a clean window and poorly placed
  • Very visible, loud, and hard to hide for long

Community notes

Evrima Quick Guide matches the selection-screen values: 9350 kg, about 29 km/h, 700 bite force, and a pack limit of 2. Raw speed 806.679993 converts to about 29.0 km/h with the 0.036 multiplier. The Isle Field Guide describes Tyrannosaurus as a slow but terrifying apex that wins by forcing respect through reach, mass, and crush windows rather than long pursuit.
